Client Monitoring Support with AMON -Airwave 7.7

AirWave utilizes AMON for monitoring controllers. In prior versions (Airwave 7.2 or later and AOS 6.0.1 or later), AMON support was limited to Client Goodput, Speed, and Radio Utilization information.

From Airwave version 7.7, support is extended to Client Monitoring (state and stat) from controllers running AOS 6.3 or greater. A new option is available in AMP > Setup General Page that allows to specify whether to prefer AMON over SNMP polling. If this option is enabled, then monitoring relies on AMON and stops gathering data via SNMP.

With AMON, the controller passes state and stat messages to AMP periodically without being prompted.

AMON communications between ArubaOS controller and AirWave is sent over 8211/UDP (same as PAPI).

Troubleshooting:

We can enable qlog for amon_dump and async_logger_client_debug

#qlog enable async_logger_client_debug

#qlog enable amon_dump

#qlog enable amon_dump_raw

#qlog enable amon

The log files will be stored in /var/log/amp_diag, amon and amon_dump will give info on what AMON data Airwave receiving from controller. We can use amon_snoop to decrypt the data to and async_logger_client_debug and /var/log/async_logger_client logs, will give info on whether Airwave able to process the info received.

Thanks Nimal.

For those that are troubleshooting AMON with the suggested qlog files, just make sure to disable the qlog's afterwards.  You do not want to enable the qlog's permanently.

#qlog disable async_logger_client_debug
#qlog disable amon_dump
#qlog disable amon_dump_raw
#qlog disable amon

Re: Client Monitoring Support with AMON -Airwave 7.7

This is a great topic for all users willing to move to 7.7 and take advantages of AMON over SNMP

First step to enable AMON is to add Airwave as a mgmt-server on the Controller willing to send the AMON data.

Also, in addition to Client Monitoring, AMON would also provide PEF data if we set "Enable Firewall Data Collection:" to yes under AMP Setup > General (Additional AMP Services box)

Some of the qlog topics for PEF troubleshooting are

1) pef_debug

2) pef_profile
