Why do we recommend disabling “Power Save Aware Scan” knob in ARM profile nowadays?

Q: Why do we recommend disabling “Power Save Aware Scan” knob in ARM profile nowadays?

A:

When “Power Save Aware Scan” is enabled, AP radios deferred scans if there is any station in Power-Save mode associated to them. In most deployments (esp. with mobile devices), the likelihood of having a client in PS mode is quite high. This results in long periods of time where radios do not scan which may lead to age out and rediscovery of neighborhoods. The changing topology can impacts the channel selection by the AP as well as other features such as spectrum load balancing which build on top of RF neighborhood around an AP (radio). In 6.1, ps-aware-scanning has been set to disabled by default. This has improved the scanning efficiency substantially.
