Chap authentication against [Local User Repository] is failing on CP 6.5.0

Jun 12, 2015 12:03 PM

Q:

Authentication against ClearPass [Local User Repository] is failing in CP 6.5.0 with the below error when we use CHAP. PAP and MSCHAPv2 works fine.

error"CHAP: Clear text password not available"

A:

The user password in the [Local User Repository] and [Admin User Repository] are not stored in reversible(Clear text) format from ClearPass 6.5.0. Chap requires the password to be stored/retrieved in Clear text to generate the challenge. So, we can not use CHAP as authentication protocol against [Local User Repository] or [Admin User Repository] from ClearPass version 6.5.x.

Note: CHAP can be used as authentication protocol against [Guest User Repository] for guest authentication.
