Does Aruba advises to upgrade the VM tools of CPPM?

Environment : This Article applies to all versions of CPPM

 

VMWARE tools is included in the s/w VM  which Aruba  provides, A basic Vmtools is installed during the first boot up of the OVF.

Its not recommended  to upgrade the VM tools .

Please DO NOT upgrade the tools as this WILL cause issues.

Why does upgrading VM tools break CPPM?

When the Vmware tools are updated it rebuilds the kernel initrd image which has the information to boot into the file system including the disk encryption information. When the vmware tools updates rebuild this image, the disk encryption information is lost and hence the file system cannot be accessed any more.
