How do I access ECS using a Windows browser?

Jul 06, 2014 10:08 AM

Product and Software: This article applies to all ECS appliances and versions 3.1, 4.0, and 4.1.

ECS is accessible using a Windows browser at:
http://<ECS-eth0-ip>:8080/
or
https://<ECS-eth0-ip>:8443/

To access ECS using a Windows browser, the client needs to install JRE (Java Runtime Environment, 1.5.0.6+) and modify these two files: ".java.policy" and "hosts". (Do not use JRE 1.5.0_13, 1.5.0_14, or 1.5.0_15.)

File ".java.policy"
ECS uses caching on the client machine to optimize the performance of Java Applets, and each administrative user must have permissions to write cache files to the hard disk. "All Permission" needs to be added to the file ".java.policy":

1)   Double-click the policytool.exe file, which by default is at c:\Program Files\Java\<jre folder>\bin.

2)   Click Add Policy Entry, and add "All Permission".

3)   Save the file ".java.policy" under c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\.

File "hosts"
ECS eth0 IP or NAC Server IP needs to be added to the local "hosts" file, which by default is under c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\.

For example:

127.0.0.1 localhost
10.168.125.150 ECS01 =========>ECS01 is the hostname of ECS, 10.168.125.150 is eth0 ip of ECS.
