eTIPS troubleshooting Tip #1 ? Hanging ClearPass/eTIPS Publisher

Symptom: No events showing up in eTIPS Access Tracker.

Root Cause Analysis: The Administrative interface for the eTIPS/ClearPass publisher can become irresponsive when the eTIPS reporting feature is enabled on an eTIPS publisher with more than 10,000 events per day.

Aruba Comments:
• eTIPS Reporting is a basic tool sufficient for small deployments with less than 10,000 RADIUS Requests per day.
• eTIPS Reporting has a major disadvantage in that it runs against all events in the database [default 30 days], not just a limited time frame.
• eTIPS Reporting is no longer being enhanced and will be replaced in future releases of the product.
• Customers should use the Aruba Insight Reporter instead. Insight, a separately licensed product, was developed and optimized to handle the demanding requirements of large deployments.

Solution:
• Disable all eTIPS reports, especially, the CSV formatted reports.
• Login to the eTIPS Command Line Interface (CLI)
• Restart the eTIPS admin server from the CLI using the following command: service restart tips-admin-server

Example Output:
