AP 105 intermittent connection issue

Recently, we have upgraded our AP 61 to AP 105. Now, our users are encountering issues:

Hardware:
- 3600 Controller
- AP 105
- Clients OS windows 7
- Authentication via LDAP

Some issues encountered are:

1. Some users are not able to connect to SSID on specific rooms. (ex. 16/26)
- I have check the AP grouping configuration and max association was 30 clients
2. Some users that are able to connect are experiencing slow connection/browsing thru intranet and internet
- I have check other rooms with AP 105, connection/browsing was normal.

Also, I understand that AP 105 was capable of 802.11 N connection. How can I achieve this?

Your valuable inputs, are highly appreciated.

Re: AP 105 intermittent connection issue

What type of encryption are your clients using?
What VLAN are your clients being place into?
Is this VLAN shared with wired clients?

Re: AP 105 intermittent connection issue

You'll need to use WPA2 and AES coupled with 802.11a/n clients to make the most out of the AP105s. If you're using b/g/n clients you'll not get the full 300 transmit and receive speed.

Here's some generally helpful wireless settings that are particularly useful in deployments where there are dense amounts of clients logging in at the same time.

When lots of clients are connected at the same time e.g. in a school, the AP does not immediately start to load balance them as it waits 30 seconds to evaluate each time. The setting is Spectrum Load Balancing Update Interval. Set this at a low level such as 2 seconds and the hand off should be really fast.

This setting is in RF Management > Radio Profile

Secondly, a problem in some places is that by default ARM is client aware and will not change channel if a client is connected. If there is something connected all the time this can cause channel issues with APs interfering with each other as they were not allowed to change. This setting is only needed to be on when using wireless VOIP (so I've been told).

This setting is in the ARM profile (Client Aware tick box)

Re: AP 105 intermittent connection issue

Doesn't that mean if you change the client aware that if the AP changes to a different channel all the associated clients have to reassociate?

Re: AP 105 intermittent connection issue

Yes that's right. However if you're in an environment where channels are clashing and you have a client always connected, ARM will not change to a less congested channel.

Re: AP 105 intermittent connection issue

However the re-association time is negligible and only really an issue if voice or video is being transferred.
