Mobility Fundamentals Track - Breakouts

 

  • Wi-Fi Behavior of Popular Mobile Devices: As we design our wireless LANs, we all need to be aware of how some of the latest smartphones, tablets and laptops operate over Wi-Fi. Their speeds, their roaming behavior, rate vs. range characteristics, CPU/application performance all matter. Join us in this session to discuss with your peers.

 

  • Wireless LAN & 802.11ac Wi-Fi Fundamentals: Sometimes we all need to go back to basics and remind ourselves the essential details on Wi-Fi technology. Join us in this session to learn more about 802.11n/11ac standards, rate vs range, legacy and 11n/11ac co-existence and more.

 

  • Wireless LAN Security Fundamentals: Wi-Fi security is a top-of-mind issue for any wireless LAN deployment, independent of the industry. We all want to ensure proper end user and mobile device authentication. And we need to protect the data in transit with best possible Wi-Fi encryption. Join us to learn more.

  

  • Access Management with Aruba ClearPass: Before users and mobile devices are allowed access to the network, we need to authorize and authenticate based on user ID and device certificate. Join us this session to understand how you can enable context based (user role, location, connectivity method, device type, etc) access control on multi-vendor wired & wireless networks with Aruba ClearPass.

 

  • Extending Role Based Policies to Wired Access: Wired networks can learn a thing or two from wireless networks. Join us in this session to learn how you can easily extend 802.1x authentication, role based access, rogue AP detection and device type visibility to wired access. You will also get a chance to understand how Aruba Instant APs interact automatically with Aruba Mobility Access switches for unified wired / wireless access deployments.

  • Fundamentals of Location Based Services: Once your wireless network is in place, you can use it to your advantage to offer location based services for your guests and employees. Mobility Design & Implementation Track - Breakouts

 

  • Advanced RF Design & Troubleshooting: Neighbor Wi-Fi networks, RF noise sources, misbehaving clients, indoor and outdoor coverage patterns can all impact mobile device performance on wireless networks. Join us in this session to discuss how you can design for RF coverage and capacity in challenging environments, proactively monitor your wireless LAN and put together a process for troubleshooting those toughest connectivity issues.

 

  • Best Practices on Migrating to 802.11ac Wi-Fi: Moving towards a new Wi-Fi technology does not have to be too much of an undertaking. Of course, that's assuming great deal of planning and attention to detail in terms of defining the clear steps on how to get there. In this session we will discuss 802.11ac placement, Wi-Fi coverage and capacity planning for 802.11ac devices and how to take advantage of 802.11ac transmit beamforming.

 

  • Defining Advanced AAA Policies for Access Networks: Guests, contractors and employees are expected to connect wide variety of devices to your Wi-Fi, wired and VPN networks. Thankfully you can use Aruba ClearPass to define the right set of policies from a centralized system and extend them to many geographical locations. Join this session to discuss role based policies, device inventory management, mobile device onboarding, NAC for wired & wireless access and more.

 

  • Advanced Aruba ClearPass Workshop: Practice makes perfect - let's get together to walk through the Aruba ClearPass product in real-time to better understand all the configuration, monitoring and reporting options available. In this session you will be able to gather practical knowledge on how to use Clearpass features such as Single Sign-On (SSO), TACACS+, RADIUS return attributes and more.

 

  • Context-based Policy Enforcement for Access Networks: Once we define all the network access policies for wired, wireless and remote access, you need an intelligent network infrastructure that can translate the policies to enforcement. In the world of mobility the enforcement needs to understand mobile apps, device types, location, time of day and perhaps couple of other properties. Join us in this session to learn about stateful firewall provisioning for different types of user roles and device types and how to tie QoS and bandwidth policies to specific mobile applications.

 

  • WLAN Design for Location, Voice & Video: Enabling multimedia services on wireless networks is a great idea nowadays, especially given the user demand. But it takes more access points to install, proactive planning for application level performance requirements and multimedia aware RF management functions. Join us to learn about multimedia application behavior and how you can get your wireless network ready.

 

  • Advanced Aruba AirWave Workshop: Practice makes perfect - let's get together to walk through the Aruba AirWave product in real-time to better understand all the configuration, monitoring and reporting options available. In this session you will be able to gather practical knowledge on how to use AirWave features such as custom reporting, trigger based alerts, troubleshooting and proactive planning with RF performance & capacity dashboards, real-time views on the VisualRF dashboard and more.

 

  • Advanced Aruba Mobility Access Switch Workshop: Practice makes perfect - let's get together to walk through the Aruba Mobility Access Switches product in real-time to better understand all the configuration, monitoring and reporting options available. In this session you will be able to gather practical knowledge on how to use Mobility Access Switch features such as tunneling traffic to a Mobility Controller, enabling IP routing, zero-touch activation, role based authentication and more.

 

  • Implementing SDN in the Enterprise Campus NetworkThis session provides a technical overview of how Brocade and Aruba have come together to provide an open standards-based automated solution to meet mobility demands like BYOD with the evolution to SDN. By attending this session you will learn about the joint development integration between Brocade enterprise switching and Aruba WLAN, AirWave and ClearPass. In addition, we’ll have a technical demonstration of how SDN is being implemented on both platforms and what this will enable for campus enterprise networks.

 

Mobility Services & Applications Track - Breakouts

 

  • Make Your Own Meridian Mobile App Workshop: Once guests and employees connect to your wireless network, you can increase engagement with them using mobile engagement. It all starts with building a mobile app, running push notification campaigns, publishing attractive location specific content. Thankfully Aruba's Meridian platform is able to deliver on all these three areas. Join the session to walk through the process of creating your mobile app step-by-step.

 

  • Mobile Unified Communications over Wi-FiMobile UC can impact the productivity for your end users in a big way. Enabling chat, video conferencing, voice calling, file transfer, desktop sharing and web conferencing as part of a single mobile app also reduces the IT spending significantly. But the wireless network in place should understand all these different traffic flows, reporting on call quality, support high definition data transfer for video and more. Join us in this session to better understand the wireless networking requirements for mobile UC and best practices on application level configuration.

 

  • Enabling AirPrint & AirPlay on Your Network: Printing and projecting with smartphones and tablets on large scale Wi-Fi networks are not as easy as it sounds. Relying on technologies such as DLNA and Apple Bonjour, these tasks require policy control across many different locations, for different sets of users. For instance, what do you do when your guest user tries to access an Apple TV installed in your meeting room? Join us to answer more of these questions in this session.

 

  • Self-Registration, Policy & Branding for Guest Access: How many times you have had trouble logging onto a guest Wi-Fi network? The answer for many us is "way too many". Well, we all know that we need a well designed wireless network to enable seamless roaming and great RF coverage. But besides we need to enable ease of use, better user experience and audit control for security compliance for guest Wi-Fi access. Join us in this session to learn how to enable self-registration, advertising, smartphone optimized custom branding and more on your guest Wi-Fi web portal.

 

  • Securing BYOD Environments with Aruba Networks and Palo Alto Networks Integration: BYOD is driving an extensive change in the way that organizations design their networks and deploy security. With BYOD, the organization faces the task of securing devices that may not even be owned or managed by the company. As a result, the organization must secure the network and apply policy based on who is accessing their applications and what device they’re using. In this session, learn about how to build a more secure wireless environment through the adoption of “Zero Trust” principles at the access layer.

 

  • Understanding Lync and Wi-Fi: Pascal Menezes, principal program manager at Microsoft's Lync and Skype partner engineering team, will cover various topics you need to think about to successfully run Lync 2013 over Wi-Fi networks as well as impact Wi-Fi networks can have on real time media quality of experience. We will talk about most common Wi-Fi network deployment scenarios and how you can optimize your Wi-Fi networks for usage with Lync 2013.

  • Deploying Microsoft Lync over Wi-Fi: Join us at this session to hear from Progress on how they migrated their workforce to Microsoft Lync to enable mobile collaboration. We will discuss lessons learned, technical challenges to watch out for and step-by-step process on how to satisfy the needs of the end users while keeping tabs on their most pressing questions.

 

  • Enabling the Virtual Enterprise: Join us at this session to hear from Facebook on how they enabled easy to use, secure remote access solution for thousands of teleworkers. We will discuss how to design wireless access for mobile devices, wired access for VoIP phones - some with 4G cellular data for WAN backup.

 

  • Evolving your career from Network to Wireless to Mobility Engineer: Many of us started in the route/switch world of networking. Times were good, the market was expanding and we had lots of work to do. Then one day we found Wireless Networking and everything changed. Come to this session and learn of the new technologies and strategies you’ll need to stay current as a Mobility Engineer – go beyond mere BYOD – but embrace MDM, Location Services, and AAA Policy Control.

 

  • Strong Mobile Authentication w/PKI: A central requirement for secure mobile access is to have the ability to individually identify mobile users and devices. SSL certificates are able to provide strong authentication of mobile devices while controlling individual access. This session will cover using a PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) for authentication of mobile devices and answer why you would want a PKI, the basics of trusting certificates, certificate anatomy, certificate revocation, and how certificates are currently being used for secure mobility.

 

  • Real-world 802.1X Deployment Challenges: Join us at this session to hear about the challenges you might face as you try to support a large group of mobile users and devices for 802.1x authentication. While username & password authentication (eg. 802.1x PEAP) is easily deployed, requiring each device to authenticate with its own unique credential (eg. certificate-based 802.1x EAP-TLS) is a much secure implementation. Join us as we discuss ways to identify the most appropriate 802.1x authentication mechanisms for variety of environments and user profiles.

 

  • TechFieldDay Roundtable: We are excited to welcome folks from TechFieldDay (www.techfieldday.com) to join us at another Airheads conference. Join the discussion as they debate the most pressing issues for mobility engineers in access networking today. They will offer tips on wide range of topics from RF design and troubleshooting to improving RoI for mobile applications and services. 

 

  • Access Management for Mobile Users: Join us at this session to hear from IBM on how they support AAA services to wide variety of mobile devices, on top of an existing Cisco infrastructure. We will discuss lessons learned and network configuration requirements as these are extended to guests, contractors, employees, executive staff and other groups of users.

 

  • Improving customer engagement with mobility: Join us at this session to hear from Neiman Marcus on how they support mobile point-of-sale and guest access within the same PCI compliant wireless network, on top of an existing Cisco infrastructure. We will discuss best practices on how to segregate business specific and guest internet traffic, enable fast roaming for voice over IP communications on smartphones and tablets, and create custom branding for guest access web portal.

 

  • Healthcare Roundtable: If you are in the healthcare industry, you know that improving patient care and supporting a highly mobile workforce of nurses and doctors are top of mind. I have one ask, that in the trainings which are set to occur Monday and Tuesday, please have power bars available for the entire class.
At last years training, no power bars so most of us couldn't complete the labs or look at the slides.
