Aruba IAP-275 not providing coverage which we were expecting

Hi,

I have got Aruba IAP-275 ap and we were looking to deploy it on Warehouse/factories to get more coverage with less number of APs. We have site survey done with IAP204/205 and it came to around 15 APs required to cover whole area which site was looking for. But we came to know that if we use IAP-275, we might abel to cover in 3 to 4 APs. I understand that actually it depends on survey but Currently I have put the AP on my desk and trying to measure the coverage which is not even 100meters. Do I have to do any addtional configuration or fine tune any of configuration to get that coverage? Will other Aruba APs like IAP-204/205 near by interfering cause issue with coverage?

Also when I was looking on switch that how much power it is drawing from switch, it show around 8.4W but I can able to connect to SSID which I configure on IAP. I am not sure whether this will make any difference as I was reading it that it draws power of arouns 24 to 30W??

Re: Aruba IAP-275 not providing coverage which we were expecting

* What power is the IAP-275 running at?

* Is it on the same cluster as other IAPs or is it standalone?
* Is the LED on and if so what color/status (solid, blinking, etc)?

Connectivity between the 275 and a client can stretch to 200-300m outdoors with clear line of sight and no obstructions between the AP and client. Indoors with walls, obstructions, people, etc that number could vary wildly and there's no way to project/estimate without better information (floor plans noting wall types, environment, etc, locations of AP and people, etc).

Re: Aruba IAP-275 not providing coverage which we were expecting

I can see from switch that it is taking power of approx. 8W.

It is working as stand alone and not in cluster with other Aruba APs.

LED is switching beteen Solid green and Solid orange.

I am suspecting that there issue with power as it would require the power of approx. 23W to 25W?? For some reason even the swtich is PoE+, it is only deleivering the 8W on switch port.

- What kind of switch?

- You need lldp enabled on the port so it can negotiate poe+

Re: Aruba IAP-275 not providing coverage which we were expecting

Below are the switches which I tried but the same results.

HP Procourve

The version details for both these switches are as below.

HP-2620(J9627A) - RA.15.17.0007

HP 5406 - K.15.07.0008   (Modeule used : J9534A)

Aruba AP-275-RW version is : ArubaInstant_Centaurus_6.4.2.6-4.1.1.8_50989

Also tried below commands on HP switch port but still no luck.

interface 2

   power-over-ethernet critical

   poe-allocate-by value

   poe-value 33

   poe-lldp-detect enabled

   exit

Re: Aruba IAP-275 not providing coverage which we were expecting

Try this only this:

interface <number>
  poe-allocate-by value
  poe-value 33

Remove:

poe-lldp-detect enabled
power-over-ethernet critical

Somehow it does not seem to when you have LLDP enabled AND poe-allocate-by-value.

Re: Aruba IAP-275 not providing coverage which we were expecting

Power is interesting and all - and should be set correctly - but I'll point out that the antenna pattern may not be optimized for "on-the-desk" deployment ;)

You might get a better test and coverage if you elevate the iAP a bit.

I tested one from my desk and later from a bracket on the ceiling and got much better distance with the AP above me.

That is a very good point Matthew. There is little projection of RF up above the midplane. The vast majority is out and down.
