Captive Portal Multiple Guest Pools

Hi,

We are facing some problems on captive portal where the users successfully connect to the wireless network over various SSIDs but don't get redirected in some cases.

Users from the same location (same local controller) and same network (SSID, IP and vlan pool) experience either a successful redirection or irresponsiveness at random times.

No proxy settings has been checked. I'm doubting it has to do with the CP-portal ip command since we have one controller serving as captive portal for three different guest wireless services (including vlans and dhcp pools).

Any other ideas or solutions?

Thanks.

Re: Captive Portal Multiple Guest Pools

You need to make sure that DNS resolution is working at that location. Is DNS resolution working on that Captive Portal that is not working?

Re: Captive Portal Multiple Guest Pools

DNS is working fine, nslookup returns queries for any page, even if redirection to the cp page is not possible.

Just to make it clear, all 3 guest pools share the same captive portal controller and page.

Captive Portal Multiple Guest Pools

I would recommend that you capture a 'show datapath session table |
include x.x.x.x' where x.x.x.x = IP address of an unsuccessful
redirected session.

The goal here is to see if the controller is attempting redirection on
it's standard ports(or not)

Re: Captive Portal Multiple Guest Pools

Hi Colin,

This problem is being faced by many users utilizing Safari, Explorer, Firefox and several other browsers, so i don't think that that's the problem.

Thanks,

Re: Captive Portal Multiple Guest Pools

Sorry to hear that. Please open a TAC case so that they can get to the bottom of this. From your output of show datapath session table, it looks like the client is doing a lookup, but somehow not requesting the http page, for some reason. Unfortunately, that is necessary for the Captive Portal to come up.
