I upgraded 3400 Controller to 6.2.1.4. After rebooting controller, RAP3 will not obtain IP.

I upgraded wireless controller 3400 to 6.2.1.4. After rebooting controller, all the RAPs rebooted.

After reboot of RAP3, none of the users are able to obtain an IP address now either wired or wireless.

The get the IP address from their home network and not from the DHCP Server.

When I reboot wireless controller back to the previous verion 6.1.4.1, they are able to obtain an IP address via wired and wireless.

Any suggestions on why they are not able to obtain IP after OS upgrade?

Do you see any flags on the RAP when you upgraded ?

show ap database

Do you have master-local setup ?

Were you able to see if the user successfully authenticated / associated ?

show ap association client-mac

Thank you

Thanks for the response.

I checked the RAP for any flags. The following appears;

Re: I upgraded 3400 Controller to 6.2.1.4. After rebooting controller, RAP3 will not obtain IP.

Actually, the users are able to successfully authenicate to the RAP via Wireless.

After they authenicate, the system attempts to obtain an IP. That's when it fails.

I have two 3400 controllers operating in a  Master/Standby mode.

Do you have enforce-dhcp under the AAA profile ?

You should probably enable:

logging debugging network process dhcpd

logging level debugging user-debug <device mac>

And confirm that the user is able to associate :

show ap association client-mac

and do a show datapath session table <device IP> to make sure there's no denies for the DHCP protocol

I noticed these known issues on the 6.2.1.4 release notes , could these issues apply to you:

Re: I upgraded 3400 Controller to 6.2.1.4. After rebooting controller, RAP3 will not obtain IP.

Hi Victor,

Thanks again for your assistance.

The enforce-dhcp is not enabled under the AAA profile. I just confirmed that it's unchecked.

Also, I checked and verified that the ap association:

Association Table
-----------------
Name bssid mac auth assoc aid l-int essid vlan-id tunnel-id phy assoc. time num assoc Flags
---- ----- --- ---- ----- --- ----- ----- ------- --------- --- ----------- --------- -----
USRAP009 6c:f3:7f:cb:88:10 e0:06:e6:02:3f:f8 y y 1 10 OFFICEWLAN 564 0x10074 g-HT-20sgi-2ss 20m:47s 2 WA

I checked the datapatch session for the one RAP and verified source/destination IP. There was two flags listed:  FC and F. No entries for DHCP Protocol denials.

I looked at the release notes and noticed the session for Remote AP. I was going to run through the steps of removing the Virtual Group. But, I wanted to confirm the steps required to complete this process.

Re: I upgraded 3400 Controller to 6.2.1.4. After rebooting controller, RAP3 will not obtain IP.

Hi Victor,

I removed the RAP-Virtual-AP Group and save the changes. Then I re-added it back to the Virtual AP Group.

No change. The SSID is broadcasting correctly. However, when I connect and authenicate, I'm still getting message 'obtaining IP'...

If I connect laptop to the wired port, I get a IP address 169.xxx.xxx

Can you tried upgrading to 6.2.1.3 , I have several RAP3s on that code using Spli-tunnel and Tunnel and I am not experiencing any issues.

I would suggest opening a TAC case too

Thank you

Re: I upgraded 3400 Controller to 6.2.1.4. After rebooting controller, RAP3 will not obtain IP.

Okay. I downloaded vesion 6.2.1.3 and upgraded. After rebooting the controller, the RAPs rebooted.

I checked connectivity on a RAP. Still no luck. I'm able to authenticate to the RAP via Wireless but I cannot obatain an IP.

Also, I'm still not able to obtain IP via the wired port. Getting a 169.254.xxx IP address.

Interesting..

How do you have it configured ? Split tunnel/tunnel/bridged mode?

Do you see anything in the logs ? DHCPDISCOVER coming from the client or DHCPOFFER from the dhcp server ?

Thank you
