Image upgrade not finishing - 6.1.1.0 on a 650

Aruba 650, originally running OS 3.4.2.1. I upgraded to 6.0.1.2 last night with no problem at all - it went flawlessly. I rebooted my master (650) and both of my locals (620).

An hour or so later, I downloaded 6.1.1.0. As before, within Maintenance --> Image Management, I chose Local File, and browsed to the file - ArubaOS_6xx_6.1.1.0_28288. I chose the non-booting partition, and hit upgrade to load it.

Here's the problem - The "Upgrading the image" bar appears at the bottom, and scrolls blue all the way across, and keeps repeating that. Sounds OK. BUT - it never finishes. It just keeps looping the bar over and over. Last ngiht I let it run for an hour. This morning I re-downloaded the file, and it's been trying to upgrade for 30 mins.

The 6.0.1.2 upgrade took 3 or 4 minutes to upload, if that.

I would try using TFTP instead of 'local file'. With TFTP (such as
3COM's freeware TFTP server) you can see the BYTE count accumulate and
see where/if the transfer gets stuck with it.

Re: Image upgrade not finishing - 6.1.1.0 on a 650

I'm having the exact same issue. All previous code updates took a few minutes to push the image to the controller. I upgraded to 6.0.1.2 on sunday, and now i want to finish the upgrade to 6.1.1.1 and the browser spins when i try to send via browser. I get a timeout after 15 minutes or so when i use tftp...

Definitely seems like a version centric issue.

Re: Image upgrade not finishing - 6.1.1.0 on a 650

A "show storage" shows that the partition is too small - it's 50MB, and the 6.1.1.0 OS is 52. Any way around this, perhaps by redistributing some of that available space into the OS partitions?

(IOSWC01) #copy tftp: 10.22.20.72 ArubaOS_6xx_6.1.1.0_28288 system: partition 0
Copying file:............
Error upgrading image: tftp: server says: File is too big, try increasing block size

Here is the “Show Storage”:
(IOSWC01) #show stor
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
none 300.0M 1.6M 298.4M 1% /tmp
/dev/mtdblock11 156.0M 4.4M 151.6M 3% /flash
/dev/mtdblock9 50.0M 35.2M 14.8M 70% /mnt/img0
/dev/mtdblock10 50.0M 44.5M 5.5M 89% /mnt/img1

Image upgrade not finishing - 6.1.1.0 on a 650

Which version are you upgrading from ?

IN version 6.1 the partition is reorganized to fit the larger images. As we add new features and additional AP types, the image isn't going to get smaller ;)

The system should automatically reformat/organize the flash is you are upgrading -from- an approved image. Check the release notes on 6.1 if you are unsure.

Upgrading from 6.0.1.2. Per the upgrade notes this APPEARS to be a direct upgrade - no intermediate steps, correct?

I had to end up using TFTPD64 (instead of Pumpkin TFTP). It worked fine then.
