problems with mesh

I am using Aruba for four years now but this is my first mesh. In my test environment, I have an A200 (OS 5.0.2.1) and two AP-65. I think I followed all steps in chapter 8 "Secure Enterprise Mesh" but obviously missed something.

One AP-65 is configured as mesh portal. This one seems to work fine. Show ap active gives me a MPP+AP. However, as soon as I configure the second AP-65 as mesh point, it reboots and never establishes a connection to the mesh.

One thing that I am worrying about is the mesh private vlan. I created a new one called 1091 on the A200. This doesn't exist in our network since I thought it is needed for the mesh only.

Do I need a DHCP server on that VLAN? What else do I need to check?

Re: problems with mesh

1. you have created a mesh ap group? (with mesh - cluster)
2. you assign both to this group?
3. in provisioning one as portal, another as point with static ip?

then you can customize the rest according to your special requirements!

Do not need mesh private VLAN.

You do NOT need a mesh private LAN.

Did you do a "show ap mesh toplogy" to see if the parent sees the child?

Re: problems with mesh

You mean I can leave this at the default 0 value?

This shows me one AP as portal and no childs.

1) and 2) Yes. I have a mesh cluster profile and a mesh radio profile. Both are tight to a AP group.

3) Yes, one is portal. The second is mesh point but doesn't have a static IP. It is supposed to get one by DHCP.

Mesh Point Diagnosis

The Mesh point can have a dynamic IP address (which it will 'pull' over the MESHed link).

I would recommend that you console into both of the AP65's (portal and point), retrieve their configuration and post here.

Sounds like a mismatch of Mesh group, or WPA-2 key or the like to me.

Re: problems with mesh

For that reason, I configured opensystem for the mesh cluster.

Will post the configs in a minute.

Thanks!

Thanks.

Looking fwd to those, curiosity is peaked. I have been using AP-65 to mesh around my office for the past 2 years or so, works very well...with minimal config.

Same config as you on the AP-65

I just plugged in the same(obviously with local IP addressing plugged in for my office scheme) configs for MESH on two AP-65's and they come up. Hmmm... doesn't seem like a problem on the AP side.

Time to look further... this time at the controller side, and the config that is stored in the AP group testNET. Within there will be the mesh group/cluster, and RF/Radio profiles all of which would be helpful to understand.
