COTD: How to provision a RAP-5wn via Zero Touch Config and a USB 3G modem.

The following is a step-by-step guide on how to provision a factory default RAP-5wn with a USB 3G modem using ArubaOS 5.0.

1. Power up RAP and connect Ethernet cable to port 1 of RAP. Make sure your PC is set to be a DHCP client. You should receive and IP in 60 to 90 seconds.

2. Plug in (supported) USB 3G modem.

3. Open new browser session. Once redirected to the RAP Provisioning page choose Advanced Settings. Then click on the USB tab. Figure 1.

4. Enter the IP address or DNS hostname for the Aruba Master controller for this RAP and choose the correct 3G device. Make sure to click SAVE. Figure 2.

Figure 2 - Modem choice.

Once the USB device has been saved to the RAP configuration then click CONTINUE. Figure 3.

Figure 3 - Continue / Please Wait.

5. At this point the RAP should have rebooted with the new USB modem settings and attempting to contact the Aruba Master controller chosen in the previous step. Note: The IP address of ETH0 is the IP address of the modem. Figure 4.

6. Once the RAP has successfully connected to the controller, and downloaded it’s software image and configuration file the RAP will warn you that it needs to reboot to successfully finish its provisioning process. Please note the RAP will reboot up to 3 times during this step – Be patient. Once it is finished the RAP will come online and be ready for service. A telltale sign the RAP is ready for service will be the illumination of the one of the radio LED’s (2.4 or 5GHz) on the front of the RAP. At this point you can disconnect the Ethernet cable and enable the WLAN NIC on your laptop to test connectivity.

When are RAPs shipping with AOS 5.0.0 code?

RAPs shipping with 5.0

Not anytime soon.

For now you would have to boot the APs to a controller with 5.0 and do the "apflash ip-addr backup-partition" on the commandline to upgrade the provisioning or the backup partition of that AP.

ArubaOS 5.0.0.1 Build #24178 no Advanced Settings

What do I have to do to get the Advanced Settings link to show up?

I have upgraded the backup partition using the method described to ArubaOS 5.0.0.1 Build #24178, but no matter what I do, I can't get the advanced settings link to show up, when I do a hard reset.

So I am not sure how to set up the 3g modem, or even use a static ip address.

Thanks.

Clear Browser Cache

Agreed.

Best step is to do a Ctrl-F5 in the browser.

Have seen numerous instances where the 'advanced' tab is not shown
unless the browser cache is cleared.

Re: COTD: How to provision a RAP-5wn via Zero Touch Config and a USB 3G modem.

We started building RAP-2WG with 5.0 image on April 27 and RAP-5/5WN on May 25. However, existing stock in our warehouses will not be upgraded to 5.0. So, as soon as now, you might be getting a RAP with 5.0 pre-installed.

You can look at the DOM (date of manufacturing) to determine whether it has 5.0 or RN 3.1 loaded.
