COTD: SNMP events

Note: ArubaOS 3.x
Need to get an idea as to whether or not your SNMP events are being sent to your management system?
Use the following command to check: Code:
(Greig) #show snmp inform stats
Inform queue size is 250
SNMP INFORM STATS
-----------------
HOST PORT INFORMS-INQUEUE OVERFLOW TOTAL INFORMS
---- ---- --------------- -------- -------------
192.168.7.6 162 0 FALSE 59620
(Greig) #
This will list up the SNMP hosts that you have configured for sending SNMP inform information to and will show you the total number of informs that have been sent aswell as the number of currently outstanding informs that are still stuck in the controllers queue waiting to be sent and acknowledged.
If you have a problem, you are likely to see something like the following:
Code:
(Greig) #show snmp inform stats
Inform queue size is 250
SNMP INFORM STATS
-----------------
HOST PORT INFORMS-INQUEUE OVERFLOW TOTAL INFORMS
---- ---- --------------- -------- -------------
192.168.7.6 162 249 TRUE 12359
(Greig) #
Here you can see that there are 59 informs in the queue. This means that the queue in the controller is filling up with informs since it cannot send them out to the management system. The Overflow flag normally means that there have been so many informs queued up that there have been some events that were not sent to the management system.
