I have been working to try and come up with a standard "minimum requirement" if you will for wireless signal strength and Signal to Noise ratio. In other words, when I design WLANs in our schools what minimum signal strength and signal to noise ratio should I be trying to achieve? This is not an area of expertise for me but I have come up with the following numbers for inside our buildings.Signal Strength of -20.0dBm or betterSignal to Noise Ratio of >40.0dB or betterDo these numbers seem reasonable? Is there some sort of industry standard accepted values for Signal Strength and SNR? What should I be trying to achieve?
Signal strength goal for most deployments is -70dBmFor SNR I typically aim for 25dB
