Question: How do I disable ARM scanning for a particular service?
Product and Software: This article applies to ArubaOS 3.1 and later.
Earlier ArubaOS releases had a feature called voice-aware ARM, which stops ARM scanning while a voice call is in progress. This function is helpful because if you continue to scan while a voice call is in progress, the call will have much more jitter and packet loss, which causes worse voice quality.
What if you could apply the same reasoning to any "mission critical" protocol, like hand-held scanning, or video traffic, or whatever type of traffic is very important to you?
Beginning in ArubaOS 3.1, as part of the PEF license, you can configure the type of traffic that will stop Aruba APs from scanning by issuing these commands:
(Aruba) (config) #ip access-list session arm
(Aruba) (config-sess-arm)#any any svc-important permit disable-scanning
Use these commands to tell the AP where a client is connected to stop scanning for the duration that this important type of traffic is present.
