Q:

How does 70xx series Branch Office Controllers (BOC) probe readability to master controller?

A:

Branch office controllers come with a built-in process called as WAN Health Check Manager (HCM).  If enabled will check reachability to master at a specified interval, which is configurable. HCM uses Pings to test Master reachability. These pings are part of a probe that are sent periodically as defined by the admin.

If the master is not reachable via the primary uplink, the HCM switched the default gateway to the next priority uplink.

In the above example every 10 secs (Probe Interval) 5 Pings will be sent. They will be retried 5 times before the master is declared unreachable by HCM and it switches to a secondary uplink if available.

Probe Mode: Only Ping Supported. Pings Master IP address.

Probe Interval: Interval between Probes. (Default: 10 seconds)

Packet Burst Per Probe: How many packets to send in 10 seconds. (Default: 5 packets)

Probe Retries: How many times to retry before reporting the link as dead.
