How does DLNA device discovery work?

Aruba Employee

Environment : Device (DLNA) --------VLAN 10 --------Switch ========= Controller -----------AP ((((( Client

1) DLNA Servers send SSDP:NOTIFY multicast packets to advertise the services they support when they connect.
2) Controller receives these packets and maintains a cache table with details of all DLNA servers and the details obtained from the NOTIFY packets.
3) Controller also sends out multicast wildcard queries to learn about the DLNA servers in the network.
4) When DLNA device queries for a particular service, controller responds to the query with source IP of the actual DLNA server IP.
