Controller Based WLANs

How does wireless bridge (WDS) detection work?

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba controllers and ArubaOS versions.

An Aruba AP detects wireless bridge (WDS) packets by inspecting surrounding wireless traffic. The AP looks for traffic that contains in its MAC header a Frame Control field that has both ToDS and FromDS bits set.

Bits b8 and b9 in the following diagram are set to 1 in a WDS frame.

After the detection occurs, the AP stops the detection for a default period of 15 minutes (900 sec). This stop time can be changed using the wbridge-quiet-time option.

The wireless bridge settings can be checked as follows:

ArubaOS 2.5

#show wms ids-policy

ArubaOS 3.x

#show ids unauthorized-device-profile <profile_name>
