Controller Based WLANs

How many VIA users can an M3 controller support?

Aruba Employee

Product and Software: This article applies to Aruba M3 controllers and ArubaOS versions.

Each VIA user counts as an IPsec tunnel. If you enable SSL fallback, each VIA user counts as two IPsec tunnels.

To determine the maximum number of VIA users supported:

  •  The M3 supports a maximum of 4096 IPsec tunnels, so potentially 4096 VIA clients. If you turn on SSL fall back, the maximum is 2048 VIA clients.
  •  If you also have campus clients, you have an 8192 max client limit, so 8192 - campus clients = VIA client limit.

The smaller of these two numbers is the limit.
