Controller Based WLANs

I am getting an error when I change the boot partition. Why? How do I downgrade a controller from ArubaOS 3.3.1.x code?

Product and Software: This article applies to ArubaOS 3.3.1.x or later.

Problem

On a controller running ArubaOS 3.3.1.x code, an attempt to change the boot partition to the partition loaded with 3.1.x or earlier code results in the following error:

#boot system partition 1

The command failed because you are attempting to boot a 3.1 system image with a 3.3 configuration file. Choose a compatible configuration file or perform a 'write erase' to create a new one before choosing a boot partition.

Solution

This solution assumes a controller with 3.3.1.x code in partition 0 (boot partition) and 3.1.1.x code in partition 1.

The controller is running a 3.3.1.x configuration from the default file default.cfg. To downgrade this controller to 3.1.1.x code by booting from partition 1, follow these steps:

  1.  When the controller was upgraded from 3.1.1.x to 3.3.1.x, it renamed the 3.1.1 default.cfg configuration to default.cfg.yyyy-mm-dd_hh-mm-ss.  Find that file on the flash and either use it or copy it to default311.cfg:  #copy flash: default.cfg.yyyy-mm-dd_hh-mm-ss flash: default311.cfg
  2.  Run the command:  #boot config-file default311.cfg
  3.  Run the command:  #boot system partition 1
  4.  Run the command:  #show boot  This is to verify that the boot pointers are correct (code and configuration are 3.1.1.x).
  5.  Reload the controller to complete the downgrade to 3.1.1.x.

(MM800) #show boot  Config File: default.cfg
