Question:  What does the error message "No bssid found for management frame type 0" mean?

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba controllers and ArubaOS 3.x.

In ArubaOS 3.x, these user log error messages are displayed continuously in the logs:

Feb 9 14:17:16 :501050: |stm| Station 02:1b:77:00:79:df: No bssid found for management frame type 0, subtype 15 to BSSID 02:1b:77:00:79:df
Feb 9 14:18:19 :501050: |stm| Station 02:1b:77:00:79:df: No bssid found for management frame type 0, subtype 15 to BSSID 02:1b:77:00:79:df
Feb 9 14:19:21 :501050: |stm| Station 02:1b:77:00:79:df: No bssid found for management frame type 0, subtype 15 to BSSID 02:1b:77:00:79:df

The message basically explains that the stm module received a mgmt frame from an AP for a BSSID that the switch does not know about. This can happen if the BSSID has just been deleted from the switch, but the notification of deletion has not yet reached the AP and so the tunnel has not yet been removed. During this transition period, the AP could forward a mgmt frame and the switch will drop it. This is a known issue and is fixed in ArubaOS 3.3.2.0.
