What is "Strict Compliance" feature in Virtual-AP profile and how does it effect legacy clients?

This article shows the functionality of  "Strict Compliance" feature that exists in Virtual-AP profile.

 

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba Controllers running ArubaOS version 3.3 and above.

 

"Strict Compliance" feature of Virtual-AP profile enforces WECA (Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance) standard, which states that a client can be denied access to wireless network, if it does not include configured data rates in the association request.

 

Below image shows a packet capture of an association request from a wireless client that has included its configured data rates:

Some legacy client stations which are not fully 802.11-compliant may not include their configured rates in their association requests and thereby may have difficulty associating with APs unless strict compliance is disabled.
