Controller Based WLANs

What is the 'ip mobility proxy on association' feature?

Product and Software: This article applies to all ArubaOS controller running 3.3.2.x and higher.

The ArubaOS 'mobility' feature allows clients to roam across different subnets across controllers. Mobility detects a 'client move' when it receives a data packet (for example, layer2 ARP or layer3 packet) from a client.

When the 'ip mobile proxy on-association' feature is enabled, it allows mobility to detect client move as soon a client associates to another AP. This ability is mostly useful when a client makes a silent move, that is, after a client associates to another AP and goes to power-save mode. This behavior is prevalent in bar code scanners or other handheld devices like vo-wifi (voice over wifi) devices.
