Q:

Why controller does not initiate Radius accounting for users in certain user-role ?

A:

We have MAC and Captive Portal authentication enabled for user. Controller starts radius accounting only after user completes the CP authentication

1) A user is authenticated using MAC address and gets a default user-role with captive portal - RADIUS accounting doesn't start here.

2) User authenticates using captive portal and  changes user-role to authenticated (role has no link to captive portal) - RADIUS accounting starts here.

By default the option "Check CP Profile for Accounting " is enabled under the user-role . If enabled, accounting is not done as long as the user's role has a captive portal profile on it. Accounting will start when Auth/XML-Add/CoA changes the role of an authenticated user to a role which doesn't have captive portal profile.
