Why does E flag shows up in ap database when Instant AP is converted to Campus AP?

Aruba Employee

Environment Information : This article applies to Aruba Instant Access Points running Aruba InstantOS.

Symptoms : On conversion on Instant AP to Campus AP (CAP) or Remote AP (RAP), IAP shows up on the controller in the "show ap database" with an "E" flag and starts action as AM (Air Monitor) mode.

Cause :

Countries apply their own regulations to both the allowable channels, allowed users and maximum power levels within the frequency ranges. This makes the AP and Controller very important to have the same country code.

Instant APs with country code IAP-XX-US, IAP-XX-JP and IAP-XX-IL are restricted Instant APs. One cannot change country code on the IAPs. The conversion of such IAPs should take place on respective restricted controller only.

(JP: Japan, IL: Israel)

Where as,  the IAPs with IAP-XX-RoW are unrestricted IAPs. These IAPs allows administartors to set country code other than US, JP and IL.

(Aruba3600) # show ap database | include 6c:f3:7f:c2:41:6c

6c:f3:7f:c2:41:6c          IAP-check    135       172.16.0.250  Up 4m:47s
     172.16.0.254

Below entry could be seen in the error logs on the controller:

Nov  6 20:12:15  stm[1777]: <399803> <ERRS> |stm|  An internal system error has occurred at file sapm_ap_mgmt.c function sapm_proc_hello_req line 9199 error Mismatched Regulatory Domain for AP(6c:f3:7f:c2:41:6c), Ctrl CC(US) AP CC(UNRST). AP will come up in AM Mode.

Resolution : Therefore, before converting an Instant to Campus AP or Remote AP, one need to be aware of the country code information.
