What is "Local Probe Request Threshold" in IAP and how to configure it ?

Aruba Employee

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba Instant Access Points (IAP's) running Aruba InstantOS 6.2.0.0-3.2.0.0.

Local Probe Request Threshold is a configuration feature in SSID settings, that allows you to control whether or not a BSSID of an IAP should respond when a client sends a broadcast probe request frame to search for all available SSIDs.

This works by looking into the RSSI of the incoming probe request. If the RSSI of the incoming request is below the configured threshold value, then the probe request will get ignored.

The supported range of Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) values is 0-100 dB. By default, this feature is disabled with a value of zero (0).

Take the below steps to configure "Local Probe Request Threshold" in the SSID settings:

1.  Login into Instant WebUI
2. Under Network, click on "New" to create a new SSID

 (or)

2. Click on existing SSID and then select "Edit"

3. Click on "Show Advance Options" at the bottom of the WLAN window. As shown in the below image:
