What protocol does IAP uses to communicate with the Airwave server?

Aruba Employee

Environment : This article applies to all IAP models and IAP OS versions.

Aruba Instant uses HTTPS (port 443) to communicate with the AMP (Airwave Management Platform) server. It establishes a secure HTTPS connection with AirWave and uses this to push updates.

State summary is sent every 60 seconds and full client stats are sent every 300 seconds.

This is different from how Aruba Mobility Controllers communicate with the AMP server using SNMP
.
The advantages of using HTTPS for Instant are the following:

• Increased AirWave scalability – 10,000+ Instant devices can be supported on a single super-AMP appliance.
• Instant in a private network can communicate with AirWave in the Internet cloud without the need for VPN or any other security infrastructure.
