When does a Master Instant AP transition to a Local? Will an IAP reboot, if it transitions from Master to Local?

by on ‎06-27-2014 04:59 PM

Environment : Mutiple IAPs in a subnet in the same code version.

Master transitions to local, when it hears another master in the same subnet and if it loses the master election with that other Master IAP.
Following is the criteria used to elect a master when there are more than one master in a subnet.

  1. IAP with Non-default IP addr(Non-169.x.x.x) takes priority
  2. IAP with 3G dongle gets higher priority
  3. IAP platform checked, AP135 gets priority
  4. IAP with higher uptime
  5. IAP with a bigger MAC address

The IAP that loses the election transitions to slave and reboots to come back and join the swarm as slave.
