Controller-less WLANs

When does an IAP act as mesh portal or mesh point?

Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba Instant APs and Aruba Instant OS versions.

Do AP-92 and AP-93 support mesh?

No, AP-92 and AP-93 do not support mesh. Aruba APs only support mesh backhaul for wireless access, so dual-radio APs are needed. AP-92 and AP-93 are single-radio APs, so they do not support mesh.

When does an IAP act as mesh portal or mesh point?

On a mesh point, when ENET link is connected, the AP reboots and behaves like a mesh portal. On a mesh portal, when ENET link is removed, the AP reboots and becomes a mesh point.

Therefore, if you need a mesh point, power the AP by an external power source or a power injector without an Ethernet uplink. The AP only works as a mesh point if its Ethernet port is down.
