Why does the VC MAC address show last 3 bytes of a different mac-address and not the IAP's actual MAC Address?

Environment  :

Any Aruba Instant AP
Any Aruba Instant OS

The VC shows last 3 bytes of a different mac-address.

Algorithm to determine the VC Name causes this when we don't configure the VC Name manually.

The question is indicating the name of the Virtual Controller does not match the LAN MAC address of the IAP that acts as the VC.

Example: The device name of the VC is "Instant-CC:AC:40" whereas the LAN MAC address of this IAP is 24:de:c6:cc:ac:3c.

The LAN MAC address is the IAP's eth0's address which belongs to this VC.  The Controller Name (VC Name) "Instant-xx:xx:xx" can be changed using a command "name xxxxx" or from the UI. For the VC name, if we did not set a name for the VC, we will generate the first IAP's latter 3 bytes as VC's name by default, i.e. it will be the first Master IAP MAC Address when the VC is formed. If the VC reboots or master fails over to another VC, the VC name will not change, but master IAP will change.  The fix is to change the VC name manually.

Steps to change the VC Name for Aruba Instant 6.2.0.0-3.x.x.x:

Instant UI:

1. Click the System link at top right corner of the Instant main window. The System window appears.

2. In the General tab, enter a name for the Virtual Controller in the Name text box.

3. Click the Show advanced options link. The advanced options are displayed

Instant CLI:

# config term

# name xxxxxxxx

# commit apply
