We have a guest network that is filled with mostly phones and tablets.

What are recommendations on bandwidth limits to ensure that our employee networks get traffic priority?

Every organization does it differently based on their objective.  For organizations that have good internet bandwidth, they have removed bandwidth limits on their guest networks and have seen customer satisfaction improve.  Others have imposed limits simply because their internet pipe is saturated.  Your mileage may vary.

Also keep in mind, if you have 7 series controllers, you can throttle/rate-limit at the application level instead of for the entire guest role. It's a great way to limit bandwidth intensive services like streaming and software updates.

The AppRF feature which can control bandwidth based on application type is one of the key differentiators of Aruba products. This feature is available in both controller-based and instant-based solutions.

Running instant can we throttle at app?

Yes, this capability is available in instant, however the support varies depending on AP type. What is the type of APs in your network?
