    How can I tell if an IAP is ready for upgrade (i.e. is used beyond its capability)? What metrics are the tell tail signs to look for in the GUI?

    You should look at the datasheet of that AP and compare it to your client capabilities.  It is client capabilities that drives an AP upgrade.
