How do I reset IAP-175 to factory settings?

I have an IAP-175 and need to set it back to factory settings so it can be an instant AP again. I don't see any reset button like on AP-105/135's. Anyone know how to do this?

Re: How do I reset IAP-175 to factory settings?

Gagaouz,

There are a couple of methods.  I assume we are talking about clearing an IAP back to default state.   If you converted it to a thin controller-managed AP that may be different.

GUI Method.

  • Click on "Maintenance" and go to the "Convert" tab.
  • In the dropdown for "Convert one or more APs to" choose "Standalone AP".
  • Pick the one you want.
  • This will gracefully exit the IAP from the VC cluster.

Console method.

  • You need a the console cable that came in the IAP box.   (USB type A to type A).
  •  You need the USB console driver from the Aruba support site.
  • Connect the IAP to your favorite terminal program.
  • Log in with your configured ID/PW.
  • type "reload" and watch it reboot
  • right after the POST finishes, it gives you a 2 second timer to press enter to abort.  Press enter.
  • at the "apboot>" prompt type:
  • "purgeenv"
  • "clear os"
  • "save"
  • then reboot the AP.   this is functionally equivalent to pressing the reset button on the other units

Whats the difference between doing a "purgeenv" versus "factory_reset"? Also, what does the "clear os" do? On a regular Aruba AP, purgeenv was sufficient.

Re: How do I reset IAP-175 to factory settings?

Clayman,

Please ignore the procedure I sent last October.

The correct procedure is now to do "factory_reset" command from CLI as you mention.

ClearOS and purgeenv continue to be the method of clearing a controller (thin) AP.

However, IAP has information stored in NVRAM that is not affected by those commands.

The only way to achieve a true factory reset is to use the "factory_reset" command.

I would think that at this stage RMA sounds pretty good.

The controller (thin) version of the AP-135 has the factory_reset command at the console. What is the difference between doing that vs a "ClearOS and purgeenv" for these APs?

Had the same thing happen to me

By the micro USB port is the factory reset button. Press and hold for 10 seconds during power up and this will hard reset the IAP to factory defaults.

Cylce the power with the USB connection and the <apboot> cmds will work now

If the dont after that it could be a bad unit
