Controllerless Networks

I have a 3200 controller. It allowed me to install 2 extra license ,but can't install APs. Is it true that this controller is limited to 8 APs ,I thought it was 32. Also I have a virtual controller with 105 IAps. How many of these can be on a virtual network?

The 3200mx is limited to 32 APs.

The thing is that you need licenses, you need to buy the license so they can work on your controller...

If you got 5 AP license on your 3200, then you will be only allowed 5 APS.

Also if you got 5 License of AP and you got 5 License of firewall

And then you want to add 5 more licesnse you need to buy 5 licenses of APS and 5 license of firewall... you cannot have 10 licesnse of ap and 5 licesnse of firewall

 

For the virtual controller, its unlimited, but its recommened a cluster of 128 APS,   Take in mind that you need APS of high performanceif

you got a big clusters something like a ap 225.

For the 3200 controller. It shows 10 license ,but only allows me to install 8. They are Campus 105 APs.Not hard wire to the controller. What could be the problem? Is there a setting on the controller that has to be change?

Can you show us the output of “show license limits” ?

Can you go to configuration--> controller--->licesnse?

And check your license

How much remaining ap capacity you got?

Also check how much AP license, RF protect license and firewall license you got

You need to add 2 more PEF licenses in order to use the last 2 APs. Licensing is least common denominator. Everything needs to match.

It like i was telling you in my first message

If you use 10 AP licesnse

You need to have 10 firewall licesnse

You cannot have 10 AP licsense and 8 Firewall license...

 

Your total PEF license is 8

And your total AP license is 10

 

You need to have 10 PEF license and 10 AP license in order them to work properly,

Sort of. I'm a rookie learning network stuff. I buy these AP from CDW and they sell me the license to use on the controller ,and I use a certificate CDW give me and I get the license from the Aruba site. Is there a specific license needed?

Did you install those 10 ap licesnse???

 

Or 8 AP licesnse came with the controller and then you installed 2 AP licesnse by yourself?

 

If its like it then CDW should have sold you also 2 PEF license

Maybe they did but you have not registered.

 

Can you exactly tell us what did you get from CDW???

The controller came with 8 license and added 2 when I bought 2 more APS frome CDW. They just sent me 2 license certificate that I redeem at the Auba site. I wsas not aware of specific license needed?

They are separated licesnse...

 

PEF license its a firewall license... its really handy for many things, it enables you to use the embebed firewall on the controller

 

One of the uses for example

Let say you got 2 SSIDs

One corporate SSID

One guest SSID

 

Normally  you wouldnt be able to separate the traffic between the guest users from the corporate network... you would need to use a separated vlan and then on the switch core or something like that start building access list, to separate the trafffic...

 

With this licesnse you can do it from the controller which is a way better.

Aruba is the only wifi solution that got a embebed firewall on the controller!  really good thing for security....

 

Anyways thats just one example, it can be used for many things...

 

When i sell a Wifi solution to a client i recommend them the PEF license and the rfp licence but if they cannot affod them both i recommend them to have at least the PEF license.

The question I have. Is my problem because of the PEF licensing needed . I do my Vlans on the switch.

They gave you 2 certifiates?

yes your problem is a licensing problem...

 

Im trying to figure out if you already got the pef license but you have not installed it on your controller or if CDW missed selling you the firewall license also...

If they missed selling you the PEF license then you need to buy it and install it.

They sent me LIC-1-AP

 

I Inheret this controller ,not sure what was bought with it.

Then you need to buy LIC-PEFNG-2

Which are 2 PEF license...

 

 

So from the image I posted I have to have these 2 PEF license too ? So everytime I buy an AP I have to buy two different licenses?

From the image you posted it seems you need 2 more pef license...

 

But i cannot see the whole image... can you check if you got any RFP license????

Well it seems that the controller came with embebed 8 AP license

Somene installed it 8 PEF license

And then you installed 1 AP license and also another 1 ap license...

 

To be sure you do not miss the RFP license go and log in the controller using ssh

and issue the command

show license limits

 

and show us the output...

 

For now what i see you just have to buy LIC-PEFNG-2
