    Hi,

I have a few IAP-103 access points that were recently upgraded and are no longer allowing me to login to the GUI. If I connect a console cable to them they boot successfully and then start displaying "turn off mobility" over and over. These are IAP-103s with the model # APIN0103. Can anyone help please.

Here is the output from the CLI:

Please let us know the steps that led to this.  We can only guess with the limited information presented.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was having some issues with the APs being stuck in a boot loop so I hooked it up to a serial cable. When I did, it said that there was no Bootable image on partition 0. I then directed it to my tftp server with an updated image and ran the bootap>upgrade os 0 command to upload the new image to partition 0. When it finished successfully, I did a factory reset and rebooted. It now loads to the instant os, but I'm having the issue as described above. If there is any other useful information I can provide please let me know.

Did you try the reset switch?  Not sure why you would have a bootloop in the first place.

Yes, that was my first line of troubleshooting, but when I held down the reset switch to factory default the units they were still trying to boot as if they were looking for a controller instead of booting to the Instant OS.

It seems like you have a controller-based AP.  It cannot be converted to an IAP....

I have 8 of these units all with identical model numbers of APIN0103. Three of them are functioning perfectly as they should, as Instant Access Points in a cluster but the others are stuck in this boot loop. They were sold to me as Instant APs and if you look up that model number, Aruba designates that they are in fact Instant APs. I appreciate the input, I just don't understand how some of them would work just fine and some of them wouldn't if they aren't supposed to be Instant.

    This might be of use:

I just fired up one of the units that I have not modified in any way that is stuck in the boot loop and this is the result:

That is a Campus AP.  You should let whoever you purchased that from know that and try to get them to exhange it.  Campus APs cannot be converted to IAPs in the field.  Their personality is set in the manufacturing process, unfortunately.

So the Model #s are exactly the same for APs and IAPs? I know that didn't use to be the case with the 105s(we currently have AP-105s and IAP-105s). Seems like that would get very confusing.

Also, since this is supposedly a Campus AP, shouldn't it be registering with our Campus Controller? Something here just doesn't add up...

Do you know why I am getting the error SAPD: Reboot after image upgrade failed: 65280 ?

APIN0103 is the regulatory number, not the model number.

A campus AP should register with your controller if a discovery method is configured correctly, the controller is configured to accept foreign APs and the controller has code for that AP model.

I don't know why you are getting that error.

You should (1) attempt to return the APs and/or (2) contact TAC so that you can get this sorted out.

    Chris,

You should always check the product part number (SKU) that is on the white sticker (right in the image below). The black label is the same for AP, IAP, and all country variants and shows the model as it has gone through FCC (and others) testing. This is true for all AP's and IAP's: just check the part number on the attached white sticker:

    2017-01-06 17_34_07-IMG_20170106_173237.jpg - Windows Photo Viewer.png

As explained before, you cannot run Instant firmware on an AP-103 access point, you will need an IAP-103 version. If you try to flash Instant Firmware from the apboot, you will see the 'turning off mobility' messages and the AP will not come online, which has been mandated by FCC (and other) regulations.

Any idea what this part number would indicate?

Did you do a google search for that part number?  It is not familiar to me.

Even better:  You can ask the organization that you got it from, what it means...

Unfortunately, I got them from eBay as-is (I know, not a good idea, but we were in a pinch) Of course now I'm in an even bigger pinch because I can't get half of them to work :(

I did a google search but didn't come up with much. Just one result of an inventory list of some kind. Didn't help much.

The inventory list had a part number that has OAW-AP103 (Alcatel), which is NOT an IAP, but a Campus AP...

Well, it's not the answer I was hoping for, but it looks like I just have to face the music.

Will I be able to flash these back to the non-instant standard image?

I think I may have upgraded both partitions on one of the APs. Is that one shot?

You can try flashing it with an IAP Image from here:  http://support.arubanetworks.com/LifetimeWarrantySoftware/tabid/121/DMXModule/661/Default.aspx?EntryId=21997

No guarantees it will work, though.
