We just depolyed a IAP-274 on the roof of a restaruant about 20 feet up that is directly above the parking lot.  The problem is that it has terrible range.  Maybe 40 feet.  What is the issue?  Do we need to use External Attennas?  I have all of the default settings and we joined it to an existing instant network made up of 6 indoor IAP-205s that work great.  I was expecting this thing to put out a great signal, but the indoor IAP-205s reach further out in the parking lot even know they are installed further away.  Can anybody that has experience with these provide any insight.  Thanks

If it really is an AP-274, then yes you need antennas (good basic ones would be ANT-3x3-2005 (2.4Ghz) and ANT-3x3-5005 (5Ghz)). The 274 has no antennas natively and require external antennas (if you look inside the bottom cover you will see six metal connectors, they are labled as to which ones are 2.4Ghz and which ones are 5Ghz).

It is an IAP-274-US not an AP274 (if that matters).  It does have the Attenna connectors on the bottom as described.  When I look at the description of the attenna's you reference or the ordering sheet it says for "AP274 only".

Upon further research - Sounds like I should of purchased the IAP-275

Yup, sounds like if you wanted an omni coverage pattern, the 275 would have been better for you. That said, a 274+2005+5005 is the same general performance/coverage so you will be fine that way, it will just not look as good, aesthetically. If you bought it from a great partner, maybe they can do an exchange.

With the IAP-275 what kind of distance should I expect if it is 20 feet up facing the parking lot?  We need to go to a tent that is about 125-175 feet away.

    Thanks

200m is pretty safe (approx 600ft).
