So I have a device that goes to sleep about 30 minutes after it's last use, which causes it to disconnect from the network. The device can be used without accessing the internet, so if it doesn't utilize wireless it will go into sleep mode anyway.

So my question is this: Is there a way to have the IAP or airwave send a ping or any traffic to the device in order to keep it from going into sleep mode. We have been successful in keeping the device on the network by sending a constant ping, but we can't continue to do this every day. Can we setup the device as a network device in airwave? It is stationary and never moves. It only operates on 2.4Ghz.

    Thanks for the input!

Does the device support SNMP? If so, then you can add it as a Universal Network Device.
All you would need is the IP address (hopefully it is a static address) and SNMP community string.
Associate it to a group with a polling time set to 5 or 10 min.

Assuming SNMP is supported, make sure Airwave can SNMPWALK the device and ping it.
