IAP With local DHCP Server for "split DHCP"

Basically this scenario has 1 site without any “L3 capabilities”, meaning, there’s only 1 network.

So, the site already has a DHCP Server assigning IPs like 192.168.1.1 to .20 and the virtual controller would give IPs from .21 to 40 for instance.

The main requirement is, these clients should NOT be nated behing the Virtual Controller to allow them, for instance to do RDP into those clients.

The main reason is because in this site you must use a Proxy to go to the internet and, with this design, we could assume that .21 to 40 are given to wifi clients only and then open the web traffic on the firewall to that IP range.

I read from the documentation that Local L3 does NOT nat but in this scenario the VC acts as default gateway for the WIFI Client…

Do you guys have any suggestion for this scenario?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Do you have any Controller deployed in your network ? if yes you can try with distributed L2 model, where the controller will be the gateway and IP will be provided by the VC.

Please feel free for any further help on this.

    Hi,

You can achieve this by using Local L2 DHCP option in which you can select GW other than VC.

    Hi!

    Thank you.

However the main problem is: with Local DHCP I can't set a range, lets say 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.100.

The "Excluded Address" is not very clear if excludes all the IPa before OR after. The documentation says that it's based on the size of the network, but again, I don't know in which conditions it excludes the IPs before the "Excluded Address" or the IPs after it.

    Thanks

Regarding this we managed to accomplish the goal setting a centralized DHCP Scope (L3).

Problem is the AP also points DHCP requests to configured Helper Address. Basically this means that not only Wireless clients get IPs but also wired clients on the local network...

    Any hint?

All of this woud be much easier if the AP allowed to create a local scope and specifing very clearly the range to assign...

You will be able to manually specify the exclusion range in the next release, 4.2.0, coming in July timeframe.

Can you please confirm if with local scope IAP will ignore dhcp requests from wired LAN and only give IPs to wireless clients?

    Thank you
