IAP and Airgroup with wired devices

    Hello,

On the controllers, you can discover Airgroup devices like Apple TVs and Airprint printers which are on the wired network as long as that VLAN is trunked to the controller and the controller has an IP in that VLAN.

Is it possible to do the same with IAP? Or do the Airgroup devices need to be connected via Wi-Fi? I can't seem to find any documentation or forum posts that support one way or the other.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Yes, it should detect wired mDNS and SSDP devices on trunked VLANs.

If so, then how does that get set up on the IAP side? Obviously we trunk the VLAN to the IAPs, but do we need to assign an IP in the VLAN somewhere? What if that VLAN isn't even used for any wireless devices? Anything else that needs to be done to enable this?

I didn't do anything other than enable AirGroup.

I have an Instant cluster and want to give it access to Apple TVs on a different wired VLAN so they will be discovered by airgroup.

    VLAN 40 - AP mgmt

    VLAN 25 - AV1 (ATVs)

    VLAN 26 - AV2 (ATVs)

    VLAN 440-442 - WLANs

The AV VLANs are trunked to the IAPs. That is, they are not filtered on the switch end:

    #show running-config interface port-channel 1

    description "AP1"
    spanning-tree portfast
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk native vlan 40

The settings on the IAP are:

    enet-vlan 40
    enet0-port-profile default_wired_port_profile

The IAPs only see servers in the local WLANs:

    syd21ap01# show airgroup servers

    AirGroup Servers
    ----------------
MAC IP Type Host Name Service VLAN Wired/Wireless Role Group Name AP-Name
    --- -- ---- --------- ------- ---- -------------- ---- ----- ---- -------
    6a:88:14:45:69:18 172.26.41.37 DLNA allowall 441 wireless 18:64:72:cb:0e:d6
    01:50:56:95:00:2b 172.16.7.197 DLNA allowall 1 wired syd2101
    DLNA Media
    91:fd:61:66:34:08 172.26.40.32 mDNS KAs-iPhone allowall 440 wireless 18:64:72:cb:0f:a8
    55:aa:c5:ee:6d:2b 172.26.41.10 DLNA allowall 441 wireless 18:64:72:cb:0f:6c
    DLNA Media

What extra config do I need on the IAP to get it to start listening to advertisements on VLANs 25 and 26?

     BGC IT,

I finally got around to testing this today. I verified Tim C.'s statement that all you need to do is trunk the desired VLANs to the IAPs and they will take care of the mDNS for you. It will even pick it up from both the wired and the wireless side. FYI, I was running InstantOS 4.0.0.9.

Don't forget that DLNA isn't supported on InstantOS until version 4.1.x.x.
