    Hi all,

I am trying to configure wifi-uplink on my IAP103 (ArubaOS: 6.4.2.3-4.1.2.1) because I want to to make it work as a repeater of a third party SSID.

I have followed this guide for the configuration:

    http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Controller-less-WLANs/How-to-configure-an-IAP-as-a-Wifi-client-though-both-CLI-and-GUI/ta-p/180362

but in all of my many test I can connect the IAP to the third-party SSID only one time!

I try to configure "uplink enfore=wifi-sta" and also to disable "uplink enforce" and give to wifi-sta the best priority, but in both ways it doesn't work fine.

If I check the status of my uplink I see this:

    9c:1c:12:cd:ee:5a# show uplink status

    Uplink preemption :enable
    Uplink enforce :none
    Ethernet uplink bond0 :DHCP
    Uplink Table
    ------------
    Type State Priority In Use
    ---- ----- -------- ------
    eth0 UP 2 Yes
    Wifi-sta INIT 1 No
    3G/4G INIT 3 No
    Internet failover :disable
Max allowed test packet loss :10
    Secs between test packets :30
    VPN failover timeout (secs) :180
    Internet check timeout (secs) :10
    ICMP pkt sent :0
    ICMP pkt lost :0
    Continuous pkt lost :0
    VPN down time :0
    9c:1c:12:cd:ee:5a# show wifi-uplink status

    configured :YES
    enabled :NO
    9c:1c:12:cd:ee:5a# show wifi-uplink auth

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    wifi uplink auth configuration:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    wifi uplink auth log:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    [1506]2000-01-01 00:00:55.729: Global control interface '/tmp/supp_gbl'

Why does it not work? Is it a know issue of IAP?

    Thanks,

    Massimo

    Hi Massimo,

This should work. I have gotten it to work before. Please open a TAC case to troubleshoot it further.

since 4.0.0.5 or some kind of version wifi uplink on IAP not working for me anymore, tested in nearly every 4.1.x.x version but also in latest 4.1.1.7 it's not working for me.

i tested since 4.1.1.7 only with wpa2 and just provided order :

    wifi

    eth

    3g

preemption enabled, during boot i see something like "wifi uplink ssid detected" , but seems it doesnt connect to the configured ssid with the given psk , not sure whats wrong.

will open TAC case aswell cause this is annoying if it's obviously not working on any latest IAP OS , and while there cant be much mis-configured i think it's just a bug.

    Hi,

i had opened a TAC with Aruba and after a lot of test they solved the issue.

I upgrade the firmware to the latest code and do these operations that they suggested me in the following order:

"Please make sure the customer first configure an SSID, then configure the wifi uplink profile, then disable the extended SSID, and then reboot AP.  If wifi uplink still does not work, then take this back to engineering for further debug."

In this way the WiFi-Uplink works fine also if IAP reboots.

exactly this i did already cause i want to connect to IAP SSID (normal plain SSD with wpa2-psk) and assigned_network or virtual_controller network.

also i disabled extended_ssid cause i know that mesh would not work, therefore i would say that wifi uplink also would not work.

i wonder about the boot log saying "wifi uplink avail", but it just doesnt connect,

im about to test with wpa1-psk with a 3G-wifi router (huawei unit) to see if it connects to that, that same 3G router i used in 4.0.0.x with IAP92 last year where it worked without issues .

lets see, otherwise collecting logs and open TAC case, perhaps im too dumb to configured such a piece of cake config

    Hi m.gallina and BG,

Just curious if you were able to resolve this issue? I'm running 4.1.1.7 and I'm having this same issue on an IAP-109. Everything works fine over an Ethernet uplink, but the wifi will not seem to connect.

    Thanks!

    Hi

tested again with IAP-225 and still not working, the authentication log of wifi uplink is just empty, status is also empty.

i tested with preemption to have sort of priority :

    wifi

    eth

    3g

not working , also with "forced" uplink of wifi also not working. not sure whats wrong here. i tested with 2 wifi uplinks, one with wpa2-psk , another with wpa1-psk , both uplinks are just not working of the iap225 .

not sure what's wrong here, next week i open TAC case to provide logs , also the "workaround" described here is not working. also it's a crap to have a workaround here while sometimes customer have already configured IAPs .

extended SSID i always disable cause of need of sometimes mesh ability.

anyways, anyone else facing that wifi uplink problem? ;-)

Have IAP 224s that I bought to use as a WIFI-UPLINK and did not know that function was part of Mesh which is still disabled on the 2xx devices. Have Open case with TAC and have tried several Beta versions but it does not look like they will have it working anytime soon. Waiting on IAP-114s to get around the problem.

never tried again, for me this is just not properly designed if there's only one workaround and you have to follow only this one way.

just imagine customers who start with IAP and "later" they want to use wifi-uplink and just change the order e.g. wifi/eth/usb or whatever.

if this is offered by aruba then it has to work straight forward. i have IAP215 on my desk and can try tomorrow again lets see if it works

i try it in IAP OS 4.2.0.0 tomorrow...

     Hi Guys,

Wi-Fi uplink is not supported on 802.11 AC IAP's (IAP 2xx series)

so where is this supported therefore ? can you list the models?

as tested with iap92 and iap93 , it wasnt working for me.

while iap9x series is EOS/EOL soon 4.2.x.x is not running there . therefore this units would be great for being wifi uplink units for attaching to LAN ports.

anyone else tested wifi uplinks the last weeks succesfully ?

    thanks!
