Roaming issues with Instant & Controller on same subnet

    Hi All,

I've been asked to look into some roaming issues for a customer. They have Dell Instant APs and an Aruba 3200 controller on the same subnet. Not only that, they also have the APs physical locations mixed together.

Needless to say it's easy to replicate the problem.

There are considderably less controller based APs than instants. Controller is 3200 (no XM) and on latest 6.1 AOS.

Any recommendations before I physically move the controller based APs to a separate area?

    Cheers

    James

If the expectation is that roaming should occur between two systems then you should the following:

    - Same SSID and Data Rates enabled

    - Serving the same VLANs to the wireless clients

    - If 802.1X is used then the same cert should use

    - RF profiles should set the same (20 Mhz or 40 Mhz), ClientMatch

Most settings are identical bar the ClientMatch one.. Controller is on a version prior to ClientMatch.

You may need to disable it on the IAP side

FYI I recommended geopraphically separating the controller access points from the instants.

No settings could help with roaming issues in this instance!
