Yes it is 802.11ac. There are some different iterations. They have a desktop version and I think a 1x1. I have the dual band 2x2 MIMO half-mini PCI chip in my Dell on Win7. Maybe the bugs are more prevalent on Win8 machines?
HINT to troubleshooting clients in Windows event viewer: Look at the "WLAN-Autoconfig" service for wireless-related logs. Lots of good information. Here is one such log from my machine:
Go to: Event Viewer/Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/WLAN-AutoConfig/Operational
You may see this:
Wireless network association succeeded.
Network Adapter: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Interface GUID: {a9c7552d-195f-4e0d-9581-1d409128cf4f}
Local MAC Address: AC:7B:A1:02:BD:7C
Network SSID: IU Secure
BSS Type: Infrastructure
Peer MAC Address: 18:64:72:FD:72:10
And then this:
WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully connected to a wireless network.
Network Adapter: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Interface GUID: {a9c7552d-195f-4e0d-9581-1d409128cf4f}

This was a successful "association". I would look for errors and see what they tell you. They might lead you in a helpful direction.
