Error: Vlan Tag and Name must be defined (Cisco iWLC / Catalyst)

Issue: Error: Vlan Tag and Name must be defined (Cisco iWLC / Catalyst)

We recently upgraded to AirWave 7.1.1 and we're getting a server error when trying to load the Manage page for a Cisco iWLC controller:

[Wed Oct 10 07:50:00 2010] [error] [client 120.33.44.55]
Interface (with id: 28123) Vlan Tag and Name must be defined
at Mercury/Utility/Assert.pm line 45
at Mercury/Utility/Assert.pm line 45
91 (Mercury/Handler/AP/Manage/Interfaces/Airespace/Messages.pm: 59) ASSERT

WHAT'S GOING ON:

AMP treats the iWLC as two distinct devices:
- a WLC controller
- a Catalyst switch

The page crash may occur if the device is added as type Cisco WLC using the IP address of the switch. You can confirm this by doing an SNMP get on sysObjectID.

# s2w [controller_IP_address] [community_string] sysObjectID

In the output you should find a line that looks like this...

CISCO-PRODUCTS-MIB::ciscoWsC3750g24ps

In this particular case, sysObjectID indicates that the IP address is for a Catalyst switch and not the WLC controller.

SOLUTION:

Delete the device and re-add it (again as Cisco WLC) using the IP address of the WLC controller.

Instead of adding the device manually, you can also run a network scan on the appropriate subnet and the AMP will discover the two devices correctly.
