Getting Cipher error while using Bitvise tool to transfer support file to Airwave from windows

Aruba Employee
Problem:

What to do when we get Cipher error while using Bitvise tool to transfer support file to Airwave from windows?

Diagnostics:

From 8.2.4 onwards we need to use scp for transfering files to the Airwave server. There would be some scenarios where we don't have a Linux server and have only windows. So, we can use the bitwise tool to create scp server on windown maching and transfer the files. We use the below KB for that,

http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Monitoring-Management-Location/How-to-upload-a-file-on-Airwave-8-2-4-from-Windows-machine/ta-p/303145

So, sometime we may come across Cipher error using this tool while SCP from Airwave. We would be getting the below error

SCP Source (user@host:path): admin@172.18.2.4:support_connection.tar

Password:

Uploading admin@172.18.2.4:support_connection.tar

no matching cipher found: client aes128-cbc,aes192-cbc,aes256-cbc server aes256-gcm@openssh.com,aes128-gcm@openssh.com,aes256-ctr,aes192-ctr,aes128-ctr,3des-ctr

Couldn't connect to 172.18.2.4: unable to establish master SSH connection: bad password or master process exited unexpectedly

Hit enter to continue, 's' to show output, 'r' to show return code.

The reason for this is, the above mentioned Cipher is present on Airwave however not on the Bitwise tool

Solution

To fix this issue we can have the mentioned Cipher checked on the bitwise tool. Post this we should be able to establish a successful connection. We will have the option to select these Ciphers under Edit advanced settings --> Algorithms --> Encription on the Bitwise tool. Make sure we have all the Ciphers checked over here.
