SNMPD service restart fails
Problem:

Issue:

when we try to restart the snmpd process, we get the below error:

[root@airwave mercury]# service snmpd restart
Stopping snmpd:                                            [FAILED]
Starting snmpd: /usr/sbin/snmpd: symbol lookup error: /usr/sbin/snmpd: undefined symbol: netsnmp_close_fds
                                                           [FAILED]

Diagnostics:

Issue occurs due to symbolic links, we need to add 64 bit libraries in the /etc/sysconfig/snmpd file.

Solution

we need to do the following to address this issue.

use the VI or VIM editor to edit this file: /etc/sysconfig/snmpd

add the below line into the file:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64

once added, if it is  Vi editor, hit "esc" on the key board and type in  <wq!>  to save the file.

Now, restart the service again, should be something like this:

[root@airwave mercury]# service snmpd restart
Stopping snmpd:                                            [FAILED]
Starting snmpd:                                            [  OK  ]
