    Hello,

i have import and start the Airwave OVA file in the EXSI System.

How can I install the VMWare Tools, after I log in the VM Console with root/admin?

I can not break the Installation Menu with CRTL-C to get in the Linux shell to type in the comands for install the tools from the mounted iso.

What must I Do? There is no info in the Installation Guide.

Only that I must install the VMwareTools before installing Airwave!?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Please follow below article

    http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Network-Management/Tutorial-Installing-VMWareTools-on-CentOS-6-2-for-Airwave/td-p/119993

If you have already installed Airwave then you need to take help of TAC to install tools.

    Regards,

    Pavan

    Hello,

    the correct path:

    1. Install OVA on ESXI Host and start it up.

    2. On VM Console login as root (PW: admin) and follow the configure and installation menu from airwave complete and correct. Dont try CTRL-C to break the Install menu. It is not nessesary to install the VMware tools first! Write down the ampadmin user and password.

    3. Call Aruba Support for Remote Assistance to install VMWare Tools

    4. Over SSH log in as ampadmin so Aruba Support can get the AMP cli to generate a new awsupport User Password from a cert.

    5. Aruba Support login as awsupport to do the Linux shell console commands over SSH like in the pdf obove.

good update.  in 8.2.6 - we have made the change to pre-install open-vmwaretools so that no support case will be needed.

Can you do the following to check status of the VMTools process:

From main menu -> Opt 11 (Enter Commands):

    8 Advanced
    9 Security
    10 Custom Commands
    11 Enter Commands
    q >> Quit
    Your choice: 11

    Running Enter Commands

Type 'help' for the list of commands.
    $ service
auditd: auditd (pid 1293) is running...
    awrrdtool:
crond: crond (pid 1798) is running...
    docker: docker is stopped
    httpd: httpd______________________________________ (pid 32581 31879 30880 29184 20805 16736 16732 16703 6942 4651 2803 2642 2639 2633 2478 2439 2409 2346 2291 2288 2284 2278 2275 2272 2269 2213 2206 2200 2196 2193 2190 2185 2160 2147 2143 2139 2127 2122 2119 2116 1946 1921 1909 1744) is running...
    iptables: running
    network: Configured devices:
    lo eth0
    Currently active devices:
    lo eth0
nginx: nginx (pid 1760) is running...
ntpd: ntpd (pid 2226) is running...
postfix: master (pid 1697) is running...
postgresql: postmaster (pid 1586) is running...
    rabbitmq-server: beam.smp (pid 2033) is running...
radiusd: radiusd dead but subsys locked
redis: redis-server (pid 2017) is running...
    redis-vrf: redis-server is stopped
rrdcached: rrdcached (pid 1393) is running...
sshd: openssh-daemon (pid 1517) is running...
    support_connection: support_connection.pl is stopped
vmtoolsd: vmtoolsd (pid 1715) is running...
    $ service vmtoolsd status
    vmtoolsd (pid 1715) is running...

I repeated the last specific check for vmtoolsd.  If you're not seeing vmtoolsd or seeing a state other than 'stopped' or 'is running' then it's possible the upgrade didn't complete all the way.  In which case you'd want to check the upgrade log from the System -> Status page (log at the bottom of page).

If the process is 'stopped', then simply:

    $ service vmtoolsd start

    Thanks Rob,

This is great news a long time coming.  But I jsut got this questions from a DoD customer running 8.2.4.2 for Fed.  When will they fix this version?

    Thanks,

                  Steven Johnson

This has not happened on the Fed 8.2.4.2 branch yet.  DE30858 is the tracking item for backporting the fix to that release branch which is in the backlog.

Yes, this open-vm-tools rpm is deployed on both fresh installs and upgrades.  It also checks to see if vm-tools are installed.  If there are vm-tools, it will remove the old vm-tools rpm, and then deploy the new open-vm-tools since VMware suggests the install of open-vm-tools as they no longer update/maintain the vm-tools package.

No, it was added in 8.2.6, but didn't make it into the release notes.
