Re: Airwave Polling IAP175

First check should be with the Instant deployment guide: http://support.arubanetworks.com/DOCUMENTATION/tabid/77/DMXModule/512/Command/Core_Download/Default.aspx?EntryId=10241

(also attached for convenience)

Make sure that http or https traffic is allowed between IAP and AirWave.  Additionally, you can try enabling the additional logging:

# qlog enable swarm_debug

This will create log file: /var/log/amp_diag/swarm_debug

If there's no activity in the log, then it is most likely a communication issue between the VC (virtual controller) and AirWave.

If it's not an issue of the path between the IAP and AirWave, check the configuration used by logging directly into the IAP itself.  Make sure it has the right AirWave IP address.  The first IAP added should appear in 'new devices' (the very first device to show up would be the entry for the VC).  If you've added an IAP before and are using the same organization string and secret, then the IAP might be found in the destination group / folder.

Re: Airwave Polling IAP175

Hi Rgin,

The article works. I manage to add both AP. Interestingly, for IAP to talk to airwave, we need to use IAP to "ping" airwave and not airwave discover it.

But every now and then there is this message appear "Click repair to fix rogue containment". Why did this appear and how to get rid of it?

Does the monitoring of IAP uses snmp at all? I also can't seems to monitor and link utilization, except cpu and memory. My IAP are use as a bridge across 2 buildings.

Big thanks!

Re: Airwave Polling IAP175

Correct, AirWave has no current way to discover IAPs.  AirWave only communicates with the IAP that's acting as VC.  The VC will send updates to AirWave over encrypted https packets.  There's no SNMP communication at all with IAPs.

Are you doing rogue containment from AirWave?  If not, then make sure RAPIDS -> Setup -> Containment Options -> Manage rogue AP containment = No.  If you are trying to, make sure that your devices know what to do for containment, and make sure that they are in the right management / monitor state to be contained (see "Manage rogue AP containment in monitor-only mode" on the same setting box, and then compare to the controller or VC's manage/monitor state).

You should be seeing client count and usage data.  If not, then it may be worth opening as a support case to get support's assistance in debugging why the data is not showing.  When you say the IAPs are used as a bridge, where are the user connections terminating at?

Re: Airwave Polling IAP175

Thanks Rob,

Very useful information.

Noted on the rogue containment part.

My IAP runs as a mesh setup. We wish to use airwave to monitor the link utilization. Is this possible?

Re: Airwave Polling IAP175

For a mesh setup, AMP can display if an AP is configured for mesh, but does not show link utilization.  Currently, the Instant APs do not relay link utilization values to AMP.  The next step would be to file an Aruba Instant Feature Request to track link utilization, and relay that data to AMP.  Please file the request through the ideas portal on the support website (http://support.arubanetworks.com).
