    Posted Apr 18, 2018 03:48 AM

    Hi -

I am trying to model the Aruba 6000 controller in my NMS.  I use the ENTITY-MIB as the source of information  for getting the physical / logical chassis and modules present on the device.

However , when I try to query the device , I do not get any response.

I want to know if there is a vendor specific MIB which would give the information similar to  ENTITY-MIB.

Do you have the output from another device that I could compare the output of?

Otherwise I'm guessing you're looking for either one of these mib tables: WLSX-SWITCH-MIB (.1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.1) or WLSX-SYSTEMEXT-MIB (.1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.2)

    Hi -

Can you please provide the WLSX-SWITCH-MIB file .

Want to compile and query the result from the MIB browser.

    Thanks

    Hi Praveen -

    >From 7.4 user guide , I see reference to ENTITY-MIB in the user guide ( refer snapshot )

However , I run 6.4.4.6 on my device ( However , 6.4 user guide does not have reference ).

Want to know if an equivalent is available in 6.4 version.

    Thanks

I'm not seeing the snapshots you're referring to.  Also, there's no ArubaOS firmware 7.4, so I'm suspecting you're referring to some HPE switch documentation.  It's possible that ENTITY-MIB was supported by HPE switches, but not the Aruba controllers since the merger was fairly recent.  You might try using a MIB crawling tool on the Aruba 6000 (since I don't have that model in my home lab) to see which of the MIB tables maps out better.  I was trying to reverse engineer it from the AirWave code, but I was guestimating at the MIBs based on their filenames.  I actually did try walking the MIBs I suggested, but the WSLX-SWITCH-MIB ironically is about the APs/BSSIDs/ESSIDs/usage counters - yay to whoever named that MIB.  The WLSX-SYSTEMEXT-MIB showed a bit more.

Keep in mind, my output is from a 7210 controller which isn't a chassis, so it might work for your needs, but if this isn't what you're looking for, it may be worth it to open a TAC case to inquire.  And like Praveen said - it'd be a feature request to get ArubaOS to adopt the ENTITY-MIB model which you could file at the same time if you contact TAC.

I have attached the pdf file to the case ( refer page 422 of the guide ) which talks about ENTITY-MIB.

Also, can you please provide details of how to use the MIB Crawling tool mentioned in your earlier post.

I see, the switch OS for the sXXXX line is different from the controller OS - the fact it was called AOS as well is confusing - but I think of it as MAS-OS (Mobility Access Switch), vs AOS which I've always alligned with the controllers and APs.  The 6000 chassis is based on the controller OS.  The controller OS doesn't pass that information over SNMP, but there's a few alarm traps for if the fan or power supply stop working.

Try googling 'SNMP MIB tool' or 'SNMP MIB browser', there's a few free ones out there - though be careful of spyware (I haven't found one that I trust on my system - so I have it installed in a VM instance in case I need to purge it, the Solarwinds one seems promising though).  I looked at the MIB output and didn't see anything that matched the inventory output that you're looking for, seems that CLI cmd is the only place for that data.

    Thanks Rob,

I was not aware of the difference in implementation between controller and switches.

I shall fall back on the "show inventory" CLI to model the attributes.

    Thankks
